3 Ways to Encourage Company Collaboration

In a corporate society that appears to be dominated by top-down management styles, as a business owner, it is important that your management approach be dictated by the industry, product or service and culture of the company.

As Creative Marketing Alliance aims to achieve client satisfaction through creativity and strategic thinking, my immediate direction was to foster a culture that would encourage and enhance collaboration and originality while inspiring team members.

Here are a few tips to help foster a collaborative environment:

1. Setting the stage. In an office environment where producing creativity is key, the atmosphere of the building and individual workspaces need to reflect openness and individuality. Our building is designed to let in natural light from all angles, while our creative studio is free of harsh walls that could stifle collaboration. Taking it a step further, expressing ones individuality throughout the day through cubicle decoration, music and laughter is encouraged.

 2. Building the team. Serving as a work-home to 30+ individuals, there are bound to be personalities that mesh and those that don’t. Our hiring process aligns its questions with the core values of our company, making it easier to identify those that will fit in best with the team. As experience has shown, those that are more comfortable with each other will give more critical feedback, be more productive when brainstorming and congratulate one another whole-heartedly on a job well done.

3. Planning for the future. While the details in a given day often get in the way of focusing on an individual’s business growth plan, it is necessary as an owner of the company, to make uninterrupted time for individuals on a regular basis that is free from distraction. Allowing team members to feel they are heard, valued and understood by management helps to regularly motivate and empower individuals, which ultimately aligns the collective energy of the team.
